The first time I met Mica was in August of 2010. I was photographing horses in the Adobe Town Herd Area before the roundup scheduled for October. I caught a quick glimpse of a pale palomino colts with a gorgeous sorrel stallion leading the band.

The next time I encountered Mica and his family was after Day 1 of the Adobe Town roundup. After a long day watching dozens of horses lose their families and their freedom, his band was a very welcome sight! He ran and played with his dark colored sister, and then followed his father, the sorrel stallion.

Once the band headed away from me, I was saddened knowing that they would probably be rounded up over the next few days, and most of them would be sent to the BLM holding facility at Canon City, CO.
